Parent Overview
Self-awareness is an ongoing journey for everyone. It’s helpful for children to be engaged in this journey of self-awareness as part of their academic and personal growth. Your child’s first step is completing their RIASEC inventory, which provides them with a 3-letter code that represents their career-related interests.
Beyond the RIASEC, though, there are other ways to engage in ongoing self-reflection. Beable creates regular opportunities for your child to discuss and reflect on their strengths, interests, values, and potential job paths.
To support these discussions, Beable will provide bi-weekly S-I-V-J (Strengths, Interests, Values, and Job Readiness) prompts, which are used in school to provide regular opportunities for your child to engage in meaningful conversations with peers, educators. And now, with the Family Hub, we’ll extend those conversations to your home as well.
Example S-I-V-J Prompts
Strengths: What strengths do you appreciate in others?
Interests: What is one of your favorite games to play? Why?
Values: What is something you like about one of your friends?
Job Readiness: What skills do you have that you think an employer would appreciate?
Engaging in Family Discussions
Each week, on Sunday, we will be posting two new S-I-V-J prompts. These prompts will be presented in school for teachers and administrators, as well. In this way, your child can have multiple opportunities to share about their strengths, interests, values, and career readiness. It helps to raise their awareness and boost their confidence.
You can also respond to the prompts and share your own strengths, interests, values, and career aspirations with your child. This shows them that self-exploration is a lifelong process. Invite other family members to join in and share their perspectives, too!
